Description
This excellent post-bop session co-led by saxophonist John Mastroianni and drummer Sherrie Maricle shows equal mastery with playing and composing by both musicians. The energized drummer contributed the rapid-fire title track and the swinging samba “After All,” while Mastroianni’s lyrical alto carries his ballad “Someday” and his soprano is just as moving on “Four of a Kind.” Pianist Ted Rosenthal and bassist Harvie Swartz, two equally outstanding musicians, round out this short-lived quartet, which seems unlikely to record again after Maricle took over the leadership of the exciting “No Man’s Band,” Diva.
